Ingoldmells Past & Present

Chapel St. Leonards is situated in Lincolnshire, just 7 miles from the popular coastal resort of Skegness.

The beautiful beaches are a major pulling factor for those looking to spend a holiday by the sea, each year Chapel comes to life between the months of March and Octobe. The area is dense with caravan sites which are usually located just a stones throw from the beach ( find Chapel Caravan Sites here ).

There are many top attractions to be found just a short car journey away, Fantasy Island Theme park in Ingoldmells is only 3 miles up the coast and the ever popular Skegness Butlins Resort a further 5 minutes.

If you travel up the coast thenyou will stumble across the coastal resorts of Mablethorpe and Cleethorpes, both offering a variety of things to do including Pleasure Island theme park as seen on ITV.

A brief History if Chapel St Leonards

During the second world war Chapel played a major part of our coastal defences, infact there are still bunkers today that can be found in the sand dunes at Chapel Point.

The name Chapel St Leonards relates to the Chapel of Mumby which was dedicated to St Leonard. Following on from a flood the Chapel was rebuild in the year 1572, constant rebuilding continued after this with numerous extensions to the building.

Events

Each year many are treated to the Chapel Carnival Parade which includes an array of interesting floats, activities on the Village Green and the carnval queen competition. The 2010 Chapel carnival took place on July 31st, as soon as dates are released for the 2011 carnival we will update this page.

A fireworks display is often put on to celebrate the end of the season, this is usually located on the promenade.
